“Thank you for guiding me, Minda!! I’m working 20 hours per week as a volunteer on a political campaign. I started out doing regular ‘office stuff,’ then moved up to researching, interviewing, and writing. Who knows what is next? I’m not worried!”
- Julie Y., former Mental Health Counselor - recently accepted at the Women’s Campaign School at Yale University
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
Since starting my private practice in 1994, I have counseled hundreds of people at various points in their career lives - recent college graduates to new retirees - and the same concerns and desires pop up again and again.
Does this Sound Familiar to You?
-I wonder where I fit!
-What am I really good at?
-Should I hang on to a job that saps my spirit?
-I’m afraid I’m going to get fired!
-I want work that reflects my values.
-Are they any creative jobs?
-How come my job has gone sour?
-How do I get a job in such a tight job market?
-How do I find an organization that I want to work for?
-Is it possible to support myself and enjoy what I do?
PHILOSOPHY & APPROACH
The strength of my approach is an in-depth self-assessment process that helps you create a clear, specific picture of your ideal work.
I will teach you practical skills and strategies to help you explore the job market. Then I’ll help you implement a successful job search. We’ll work together on the nuts and bolts of networking, writing resumes, preparing for interviews, and negotiating salary.
As an added benefit, I provide personal counseling to help you improve how you feel about yourself, so you can move into focused action. I also provide structure and accountability to help you stay on track until you reach your goals.
“I have accepted a job that I’m pretty excited about. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me. You’ve been a tremendous help, particularly with the interview role-playing we did the last session. I felt that with each interview I had, I was getting that much closer to finding another job.“
-Wendy H., formerly worked in non-profit sector, now managing a government grant program
EXPERIENCE
Tap into my 15 plus years of successful corporate experience, my Masters degree training in Counseling Psychology (Lewis and Clark College, with an emphasis on workplace psychology), and my wide network of local contacts that can help you investigate almost any career option.
Before my own mid-life career transition, I managed training and development functions in a number of local firms, such as First Security Bank and Intel. In 1993, I decided to tackle a life-long dream to become a career counselor so that I could help others to create work lives that they truly love.
My background in the corporate world in the Portland, Oregon-area provides me with “road-tested” insights into the local job market, and how the hiring process really works in local organizations.
“Thank you so much for your guidance and support through the ‘searching’ process. I am so grateful for the time I spent working with you. You helped me to see behind doors I didn’t even know were there. You also helped me to get to a better place emotionally.”
- Alex H., former Audiologist, now working with Habitat for Humanity
SELF-DISCOVERY PROCESS
My commitment is to help you uncover and build on the strengths and gifts that already exist inside you. I use a variety of fun, creative activities, exercises to actively involve you in your own “head-and-heart” self-discovery process.
Powerful Career Assessment Tools:
-Family history to identify limiting beliefs and “scripts”
-Work history to begin clarifying work priorities
-Strong & Campbell Interest Inventories to identify key career satisfiers
-Myers-Briggs Expanded Analysis to bring key strengths and stressors into focus
-Personal success stories and SkillScan to clarify favorite job skills
“White (Redburn) delves into a person’s background. ‘I ask for a family history. I want to see if there are beliefs that might be getting in the way,’ she explained. ‘For instance, I had one person whose experiences taught her that she’d be punished if she got too excited about anything. Obviously that’s not good. I’m looking for influences that are whispering offstage.’”
- Schooling For A New Path, The Oregonian, May 1998 (extensive interview)
